You’ve gotta believe this one.
Early dawn of Monday, election day for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan nationwide, the highly urbanized City of Puerto Princesa and most of the municipalities further south of the Province plunges into a total power blackout.
It was enough to raise an alarm for Congressman Baham Mitra, who immediately texted NPC Small Power Utilities Group Vice President Lorenzo Marcelo to demand an explanation.
It turns out that a lowly forest gecko had tripped a power cable at Napocor’s main facility in Barangay Irawan and brought down the whole system. Mitra received the following reply message, as power was restored after about an hour.
“Just confirmed from the Irawan Sub Station tripping due to short circuit caused by “tuko”… we have redirected our lightings (sic) to avoid same incident in the future. Good day sir.”
Imagine what this animal can do to New York city.

Hey Manong Dempto!
I just stumbled upon your blog through my news reader, which I had tuned to pick up blogs from the Philippines. I’m not sure why it took so long to find your blog, but I’m glad it did. Keep up the good work — and do say hello to the family for me.
Ingat lagi,
Noah

Now was there a metal chain chain attached to the Gecko?
In the past, when I used to cover elections there – I used to remember seeing a common technique using a metal chain to create a ground and trip the system to some power-lines around election time.
I won’t go into details of how its done – but creating a ‘ground’ trips power.
But it means that a broken circut must happen.
Also are they sure it was just a tuko… baka naman tree climbing crocodile yun…
Oh well… investigations into thing like this often show strange twists just look at the Makati explosion – at first people said it was accidental – then a bomb – now its accidental again.
perhaps that tuko had a makati cousin in the basement of gloreitta 2.
